The good news is that the pharmaceutical companies are getting on the natural medicine bandwagon and investing large amounts of money in pharmaceutical grade natural products. This is good, as now standardized herbal extracts and medicines are available. This guarantees the correct doses when you are depending on an herb.
Our number one depression medication - St. John's Wort is now standardized and manufactured for us by a pharmaceutical lab. It is standardized to .3% hypericin which is the active ingredient. You still get the benefits of the whole herb, but you are guaranteed a specific potency with every cap. This is very important because potency of herbs depend on harvest, storage and many other factors. Many of you read about St. John's Wort in a book and go to the local health food store. Case study #1:
Puppy with late stage parvo. Can not eat, weak and vet says their is
nothing that can be done. This pup was purchased for a young boy at Easter.
The mother of the child did not want to give up. She took the dying puppy
