WHAT A RIDE!
Well,
you talk about intense. We made it through the crashed shopping cart, no power
for 10 days, no water for 4 days and freezing temperatures! But get this! Monday
Feb. 9th, I am sitting at my desk getting ready to organize all the orders that
came in on the weekend that I had just printed off the Internet. 7:15 a.m. the
telephones go dead. That means, no computers, not able to process credit cards
orders and also not even cell phone service. No idea what has happened. We wait,
nothing. We finally get information that the fiber optics cable in town has been
cut and it might be tomorrow before service will be restored. By now the staff
is ready to pack and ship the weekends orders. Do I send them all home and shut
down? My staff has been through some real hardships with the last ice storm and
since we are a relatively small company it is not possible to let our orders pile
up, so I decide to ship all of the packages ordered on the weekend without charging
the credit cards. It came to me that our members put a great deal of faith in
us and I decided that I would do the same and put my faith in my customers, and
ship their packages. I don't imagine there are many companies that would have
done this. After the phones came back on we ran all the credit cards for the orders
that had already shipped. In the final tally we only had 3 people with declined
credit cards totaling under $100.00. Thank you guys, you rock!
I think now would be an important time to explain to our new members that Herbal Healer is a small family owned business and not some large corporation. When we ran Herbal Healer for 10 days without power, it was my husband, Stephen, who got up at 5 a.m. everyday and made sure all the generators were gassed up and running and the kerosene heaters were on in our offices. My husband and a couple of local friends had to cut all the trees off the roads so the staff and UPS could get in. We want you to know that we do our best, everyday, to make sure that we look after you the best that we can by not closing down and stepping up to the plate, even when times get tough. I should be rested up enough next week to open Ask The Naturopath as well. By the way Friday the 13th is my birthday. 55 years strong!
