To Whom It May Concern:
Please reconsider your actions against the Herbal Healer company. It is one of the few places I can purchase high quality, fresh herbs and tinctures at a reasonable price. Mariah McCain has NEVER once misrepresented her products to me and always refers me to my personal physician. All of the natural herbs, ointments, and tinctures that I have purchased from her have been, at times, used in conjunction with western medicine or by themselves and have not harmed me in any way. On the contrary, I have never been healthier or felt better in my life!
It is sad that the AMA and our legal system continues to harass and shut down all avenues to alternative, natural therapies in the hopes of forcing the public to purchase their patented, petrochemical pharmaceuticals. America is about choice and we as the public should be given the responsibility of our own health and not be forced to purchase treatments and medicines from large companies in pursuit of billions of dollars.
I understand your concerns about fraud and applaud your efforts in protecting the public from it. However, Mariah McCain provides a legitimate service and I, for one, am thankful that there are people like her out there who help people like me stay healthy. Thank you for your attention and have a good day. S. J.
Dear HHA, I too have sent a letter to Mark Pryor. I am an RN in Louisiana and know full well the turf war going on in medicine. I believe good will come out of this for you Dr. McCain. I really do. Sometimes things like this need to come to a head to expose the imposters, and pave the way for a new way of thinking. Besides you are an Aquarian-you are part of the future. Take Care. Love You, J.
Dear Mr. Davis:
I am writing about Case number CV 2002 008480. As a consumer I feel that I have the absolute right to take care of my health in the way I see fit. This may or may not coincide with the prevailing theories in traditional medicine. There is a need for knowledgeable people such as Dr. Marijah McCain (note that I refer to her as Dr.) to disseminate the latest information available in natural medicine. Traditional medicine and pharmaceutical companies are not in a position to do this. I see that traditional medicine is looking more in this direction as evidenced by the Complementary Medicine Dept. at NIH and the latest announcement by Harvard regarding alternative therapies. However, it will be many years before any of these researchers, teachers or anyone else in the traditional medical community are knowledgeable enough to be of help to people. Dr. McCain has many years of hands on experience and any doctor worth his salt will tell you nothing can beat clinical experience. (Although let's not overlook all her educational credentials!) Also, I know that another objection is the lack of research into herbs and their application to health and disease. I would like to point out that a massive amount of reserach has been done on herbs, however it hasn't necessarily been done in the United States where the pharmaceutical companies are basically the only ones doing research. (I grant you that is slowly changing). In any event, many countries in the world have done and continue to do extensive research and utilize in their hospitals many of the protocols that Dr. McCain advocates. When all is said and done my main point is this: I have a right to choose in what manner I want to take care of my health. It is not up to the AMA, the FDA, the pharmaceutical companies, health insurance companies or the U.S. Govt to tell me how to do this. This is a country based on freedom. I am and will continue to exercise my right to choose the way I want to care for my health. That happens to include Herbal Healer Academy, Dr. McCain, naturopathy and natural medicine. I sincerely hope you will reconsider the position you have taken regarding Herbal Healer Academy and recognize the amazing work that they do. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, A.K.
To Everyone at Herbal Healer, I am so outraged at what is happening to you. I have compiled a listing of all the herbalists, naturopaths, accupunturist/accupressurists, health food stores, and anyone else in the Charleston, SC and surrounding areas that may be as outraged as I am about this.
I started the herbology course last year, and unfortunately have run into some financial problems which has dramatically slowed my progress, but I will not give up. I am determined to finish the ND program, so you CAN'T lose. My father has had miraculous results with the 4-herb tea and other products, when surgery and chemotherapy has done nothing. He is at this moment, completely cancer free. I could not be more indebted to you for that. I will continue to do what I can and lend any support I can. Love and Peace. C.S. ~ Herbal Healer member and Student
Hello Dr. McCain, I wanted you to know that you have my support and the support of my company. It is absolutely appalling that the society that we live in today has the ability to let the government act as "Big Brother" and dictate to the people what they are allowed to do in order to feel better and be healthy. We will do everything that we can to spread the word for Dr. McCain and the herbalhealer.com website.
I personally have never used any of the products that you promote, but if people derive benefits from them then no entity should impede their ability to receive them. I wish you hope and strength in your struggle. Warm Regards, name withheld - Search Engine Specialist
I received your email regarding the "shut down" efforts of your state.
What a tragedy! I'm an aspiring holistic health practitioner here in CA. We faced some scary legislation that may have resulted in the same tactics. Glad to say that we defeated it! Any lay person that told someone to have a cup of chamomile tea at bedtime would have been accused of practicing medicine without a license! Good luck in your fight. You have my support and prayers! D. P. ~ CA
Dear Dr. Marijah McCain, We have a k9health (Yahoo) group and are all appalled at what is happening to you in the States. We want to help in whatever ways we can. We believe in the freedom to choose herbal and homeopathic treatment for ourselves and our pets. Remember you are doing it for everyone who believes in the freedom to
choose how to treat themselves and their animals, not just for
yourself. Please seek help wherever you can for their/our sakes if
not for yours! That is the only way to let the authorities know the strength of feeling ACROSS THE WORLD about what they are trying to do. You can't fight them alone and mustn't try FOR THE GOOD OF ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS AND THOSE YOU HAVEN'T YET HEARD FROM.
We all wish you success in your battle for HUMAN RIGHTS. If you lived
in England this would end up in the court of Human Rights in Strasburg
(Europe) Do you not have an equivalent in the States? Or do you have
to appeal under American law (for the whole of the States)?
Forgive my ignorance on the way things work over there.
In any case you need a lawyer who specialises in Human Rights
issues, which I trust you already have?
Above all please remember you are fighting ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US,
this is not just a battle for personal survival. Whatever you do
affects us all and our freedom to choose. Remember also that WE ARE
ALL BEHIND YOU AND SUPPORTING YOU IN YOUR FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO
PRACTICE AS A NATUROPATH. The world needs more people like you (not
less) to cure all the ills arising from our modern way of life and
wrong decisions of the authorities.
God Bless you and your work. Long may it continue to help people like
me and my dogs. I too have to declare my vested interest in your
survival as a practising naturopath!! Take good care of yourself and remember at all times that you are never alone. You have a lot more support than you realise. With love Prudy
Hello friends and family, Many of you know I am working towards a degree as a Naturopathic doctor and Herbalist. I feel there is room for MD’s and ND’s to work together in helping keep people healthy. Unfortunately, the prescription drug companies, some physicians and many people in politics only see room for big business. Big business means taking away our freedoms to live healthy without prescription drugs. Our choice to receive advice from someone knowledgeable in nutrition, prevention and natural means. Our choice to eat fruits and vegetables not contaminated with pesticides or genetically modified in anyway. Soon we may loose our choice to live free from disease.
Below is a letter from one ND in Arkansas who is dealing with a lawsuit from the Arkansas Attorney General’s office. I do not know her personally, but I may be in her shoes one day. If you value your health and the choices you choose to remain healthy, please pass her story on to people who also care. Thinking of all of you and wishing you health, happiness and peace. C.
Dear Marijah, I just wanted to let you know that, along with so many others, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have only recently been looking into herbal medicines and it is terrible (thought unfortunately not surprising) the lengths the system will go to to deny us this most nautral way of healing. But I'm not going to go on about how dreadful the system is, im just going to say how wonderful it is that people still follow natural ways and how I am so pleased that you are fighting this dictatorship. I hope all goes well for you, and that over the next few years the right way of living will win out in all aspects of society. You take care and don't let the system kill your spirit :) Brightest blessings of light and love...jenni xxx
Dear MMC... sorry to hear about your trouble with the state. Why can't they leave us alone to help those who need help? I'm with you all the way. Sincerely...Jack
Dear Dr McCain,
I am so sorry to hear of your harrasment by the authorities in AR. I have appreciated your newsletters and website for the wealth of information that it has been. Yes, you are right. Where will we get the alternative medical information that we need, if not from you, in both electronic and telephonic media? That is the point, I think, the medical establishment has put the AG up to this to force you out of business. That is not a good thing. I will pray for your case, and wisdom for your attorneys, and a righteous judge to hear your pleadings. Please let us know your mailing address so that we may send our contributions in support of that effort. I or my family might need you some day, and we would like to invest in your
still being available. H.W. ~ Texas
I am attending Clayton College for an ND and Herbalist certificate. I live in Charlotte, NC and I have sent your story to everyone I know. A few people have written me back wondering what they can do. Sometimes when these issues come up I feel so emotional my words and ideas get all tied up. I understand you are probably busy at this time, but if you could help with an example or a contact name that can provide this, I would be so appreciative. Wishing you health, happiness and peace. C. T.
Hi - following is a copy of the letter I just e-mailed to the Arkansas Attourney General, hopes it is of help. Keep up the good work.
I would like to take this opportunity to write to you regarding DR. Marijah McCain. One only has to look at her list of credentials to realize that she does indeed have the right to use the initials DR in front of her name. In this world of government agencies that crop up daily to "regulate", "ensure our safety", or whatever else, the AMA (American Medical Association) has been incringing upon the publics' rights to seek acceptable health care. The AMA, from its inception, has worked to have any form of alternative health practices deemed "crackery". This in spite of many, many cases that prove the opposite. They have tirelessly worked to have homeopathy physicians, many of whom have graduated from the same Ivy League schools as their allopathic counterparts, removed from their ranks. They have worked to have those schools which teach homeopathy or any other alternative medicine closed or at the very least worked to have their federal funding drastically decreased if not altogether stopped at which point the are forced into closing due to lack of available monies. They may feel that they are protecting the public, when in fact they are doing a grave disservice. They are taking away our right to seek better health in whatever way we deem appropriate.
This country, at one time, was home to many homeopathic physicians, and/or other alternative practices, (look at what they tried to do the chiropractic physician's not that many years ago). Homeopathic physicians have attended to many people of importance including senators, presidents, and heads of state from other countries. The current Queen of England employs a homeopathic physician, as does the future King of England, Prince Charles. Are these people being falsely swayed, as one might suggest because of "promises" made from the hope of better health from someone other than an allopathic physician? I think not. The AMA sees the coming trend to alternative medicine because people in general are becoming discouraged at the lack of results from the generally accepted form of treatments. The public is becoming greatly disillusioned with the ability of allopathic medicine to bring lasting results that work towards better overall health.
This is the reason that the AMA is currently going after Dr. McCain, they are worried that many people will turn to alternative medicine (as is currently happening) in order to gain better health. Better health means less revenue overall for the allopathic community: less physicians' office calls, less prescriptions dealt out, less diagnostic testing, all due to the increased better health that reputable alternative physicians can give to their patients. Money is the driving force.
If the AMA was really concerned with the publics' overall better health and well-being, then they would be accepting of the alternative forms of medicine instead of trying to police and ultimately destroy their credibility. If you allow this course of action to proceed, and they are successful in stopping Dr, McCain, it is only a matter of time before all other forms of medicine except that allowed by the AMA is disposed of. In that instance, you will be just as guilty as they are.
Furthermore, Dr. McCain is more than qualified to treat as well as instruct others in the practice of alternative medicine, pleae allow her to continue in this course of action.
I am a Registered Nurse currently working in the critical care unit of the facility in which I am employed. I also am working towards my Masters Degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. My ultimate goal is to continue my education in the field of homeopathic medicine. Thank you for your consideration. T.B. RN
Dear Mark Pryor, I'm writing to you regarding your article on your website, ATTORNEY GENERAL MARK PRYOR FILES SUIT AGAINST INDIVIDUALS POSING AS NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS.
I'm very much indebted to the services of Dr. Marijah McCain ND through the Herbal Healer Academy, and am very supportive of the freedom of speech which Dr. McCain has exercised through TELLING US THE TRUTH over the years about natural treatments which heal.
As an intelligent member of society, however, I felt compelled to not
just blindly follow her but to dig deeper into your civil lawsuit to
understand where your confusion lies in this matter. The following is
from your website:
"According to information obtained by the Attorney General's Office,
the practice of naturopathic medicine requires at least a four-year,
graduate-level education of rigorous and intensive study from
nationally-recognized and/or regionally-accredited naturopathic medical institutions. Only students who graduate from such medical institutions are eligible to take the national licensing exam for practicing naturopathic physicians (NPLEX)."
I believe the confusion begins with the American Naturopathic Medical
Certification and Accreditation Board (ANMCAB) and their TWO
ANMCAB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
The ANMCAB offers two types of Certification:
American Board Certified Naturopathic Physician
Any currently state licensed Allopathic doctor, Osteopath, Doctor of
Dental Surgery, or Doctor of Medical Dentistry, Doctor of Pharmacology, Chiropractor, Nurse Practitioner, Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with additional training in Naturopathic therapies may be board certified as a naturopathic physician. A naturopathic doctor possessing another medical degree may qualify for Board Certified Naturopathic Physician.
American Board Certified Naturopath
Applicants qualified to be designated a Board Certified Naturopath,
must meet the following requirements at the time of submitting the application. Graduation from a Naturopathic program that is approved by the ANMCAB(including Herbal Healer Academy), and/or Education and experience deemed equivalent, and Sit for and pass the required naturopathic examination administered by the American Board of Naturopathic Examiners.
Dr. McCain and the Herbal Healer Academy NEVER claimed to train doctors to become American Board Certified Naturopathic Physicians. Her correspondence course is to train a Naturopath - that was ALWAYS clear since I began using her training and products since 1998. We, the public, are more intelligent than you give us credit for; none of us are so stupid to think that a correspondence course makes us a
A quote from your website: "The truth is, however," Pryor said, "that
Arkansas does not license the practice of naturopathic medicine --- period." We're not talking "medicine" here; most of Dr. McCain's students and customers are done with the medical field, and
have moved on to natural treatments for healing and a better quality of life.
Please leave Mariah McCain alone - she healed me, and undoubtedly heals many more each day. Change your antiquated Arkansas laws, and let people have the freedom to make their own intellectual decisions based on the facts before them. Thank you for your time, M.G.
DEAR M. McCAIN, WHEN I RECEIVED MY HERBAL CERTIFICATION IT WAS THE MOST EXCITING THING I'VE BEEN INVOLVED IN A VERY LONG TIME. IT HAS HELPED ME TO DO THE THINGS I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WEBSITE - I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUING MY STUDIES. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU, I'M SENDING HEALING REIKI ENERGY TO YOU TO HELP WITH THE MENTAL EFFECTS THIS COULD HAVE ON ANYONE WHO STRIVES TO CHANGE OUR BACKWARD WORLD. GOD BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS! LOVE AND LIGHT TO YOU, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! C. H.
Dr. Marijah McCain ND, I haved only recently found your site and ordered some products which I find helpful. The biggest barrier I have had against useing natural products is because I have no idea what they are for!! Your site has been quite helpful and educational for me! I have forward your web site information to my primary doctor who says as long as I let him know what I am taking, he sees nothing wrong with me using your products. N.K.
The contacts below and your story have been forwarded to 400 more people for you. I am so sorry this has made you ill. Please take care of yourself Doc, so many people need you and will need you badly.
Dear Attorney General Mark Pryor,
I'm writing in support of the Herbal Healer Academy, Inc. that was mentioned in your suit dated 8-12-2002. After reading through the release, it doesn't sound like you're talking about the Academy at all. It states: "misleading and deceptive advertisements and business activities". To my knowledge, the school has been quite upfront and honest in anything that I've noticed.
It states: "detrimental to the health, safety, security and welfare of the people..." Marijah McCain, ND has said to have tried everything that she puts out on her website and I myself can vouch for the safety of the products that I have used and my family has tried. It states: "accredited two-week accelerated course of study".
It's taken me almost a year to complete the Herbology course that the Academy has. That's only one class out of twelve that is required.
It states: "Arkansas does not license the practice of naturopathic medicine---period." and "the practice of naturopathic medicine requires at least a four year, graduate-level education of rigorous and intensive study from nationally-recognized and/or regionally-accredited naturopathic medical institutions. Only students who graduate from such medical institutions are eligible to take the national licensing exam for practicing naturopathic physicians."
This statement sounds like the students from the 4 year universities are unable to be licensed in Arkansas too. Is this correct?
It states: "being certified to diagnose, treat, and/or prevent various human diseases by the use of certain remedies and invasive medical procedures". Through the course of my studies at the Academy, I was made aware that this was for my own information and that it would in no way allow me the right to diagnose, cure or treat anyone!
In finishing, I would just like to say that the Herbal Healer Academy has been a great benefit to my family. I started the courses mainly because my mother was brought home from the hospital to die. The medical doctors had "no hope" for her. I sent her to our doctor who's an ND. (Who received her degree through a correspondence school). Now, my mother is doing great! She's better than she was years ago! That's why I decided to go into Naturopathy! I understand that you have a job to do and I would hope that through this all, you would search your heart for the truth. God tells us that if we seek it with fervent prayer, that the truth will be revealed. Sincerely,
Dr. McCain, I am so very sorry you are going through this anguish. I will write a letter in your support. Thanks again for providing very effective, very safe alternatives. Warmly, D.W.
Dear Dr. McCain, Thank-you for helping me to a better life naturally. I have learned so much from you. My health has improved, I have become a label reader and I have become extremely upset with our government letting the public become dependent on chemicals. I am still in the baby stage of learning although you have taught me so much. You are someone I look up to and trust. HHA Member
You have been our rock for a long time now. It is about time we can repay you just a little. As I stated in my letters to (everyone I could think of). I have been in some kind of health field since I was 16 years old. And I still can't afford health insurance. You are my only doctor, and it was really upsetting when you had to stop Ask The Naturopath". So, I decided to take the ND course, which has also put me in debt, BUT, at least now I am paying for something I can count on. I can't always afford what I need, when I need it, but at least I knew it was there when I could. So, you see, I am just one person out of thousands who are indebted to you, for the kind, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable work you do. If I lived closer, I would be there (in court) with you everyday. I WILL finish this course if I have to follow you everywhere you go. I have completed all of the courses in the ND program, except the Nutrition and Chemistry (I am working on the case studies) And the Massage Bodywork and Healing Touch. (I am a Cerified Reflexologist and Acupressurist) but I forgot to submit these in my prior learning for credit. Anyway, I will finish these, and I will be an ND and I will also fight for the rights of every American to choose. You have trained us well. Love and Prayers. T.
I am writing to you about a very upsetting situation and I am appealing to you for help. If there is any way you can help in this matter please do so.I received this email from my school and Dr. McCain the other day. These alligations couldn't be further from the truth. Dr. McCain is one of the most honest, compassionate, kind, caring and Knowledgeable people in the world. Her credentials are very much real and she has the following to prove it. On your web page you state that Americans have the right to freedom of speech, of this is true then why can't we tell people about Naturopathic Medicine which has not only helped pain and illness but has saved many lives. Please read the following plea for help from Dr. McCain and do anything you can to help. Thank You, Sincerely, P.
Dear Sirs, Regarding the lawsuit against the subject individual, I would recommend you reconsider. I, along with I'm sure, thousands of others will line up outside the courtroom to testify in her behalf and the health benefits resulting from her products. Statistics will also come to bear. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), April '98 stated that over 100,000 deaths per year result from prescription drugs. The National Poison Control Center states the same, in addition to the following causes of death since 1983: 5 deaths/yr from vitamin/ mineral supplements, 0 deaths from herbal supplements. Actually, I would love to see a case like this come to trial. It would be a chance to take on the AMA and FDA publicly. The incestuous relationship between those entities and research institutions, and the resultant "spin" on various research programs would be brought to light. In addition, the incredible amount of documented research on the efficacy of natural cures could hit the nightly news reports. Another group who would be testifying in Dr. McCain's behalf would, I'm sure, be the American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM). This is an organization of MD's who have educated themselves on nautral/holistic medicine. Their website: http://www.acam.org. Every sector of society has a few bad apples (ie: Enron, Wordcom, etc). Those apples should be delt with. If your motives in bringing suit against Dr. McCain are honest and straight forward, I am sure you will end up dropping the suit once you've investigated her and interviewed some of the thousands of people she has helped. If, on the other hand, you're motivated by political reasons, well, there will be plenty of folks ready to step forward in her defense.
I'm hoping that the reason for the lawsuit is a few "bad apples" which you're trying to take care of. Please, if that is the case, don't prejudge and put Marijah McCain in that category. Just do an honest and straight forward investigation. Sincerely, F. P., LtCol, USMCR(ret)
Dr.McCain, I just read your e-mail. I am so sorry to hear this bad news. I will be praying for you. It is ashame that they are doing this to you. You have done nothing but good, you must win against them. If it wasn't for you, sick people like myself and others would never be able to get well and be dependent on these so called MD's who make us more ill, then help us get back to normal health. GOD BE WITH YOU DR. MARIJAH McCAIN - R.SS
Dr. McCain, You have been such a big help to me, it pains me that this is happening to you. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Be Blessed! L. H.
Dr. McCain: Our prayers are with you. Good and truth always prevail. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, G., D., & B., R.
To Mark Pryor:
When I read about your unwarranted attack on the HHA naturapathic
school, I was inspired to create a website just to expose this dark
repression of effective and successful alternative medicine and to make suppressed information available to the public. I have since done so, and it will be widely promoted. The HHA does not make the promises or claims of which you have accused them.
Please reconsider your alliance (witting or unwitting) with the evil and greedy monopolistic forces of the medical industry that damage the health of Americans under the guise of "protection". Sincerely,
I will certainly pray for you throughout this whole mess. I have wondered for quite awhile, though, when it would come to this. I have recently heard that they have closed down a bunch of Europe's facilities like this. I guess it would just be a matter of time before they got here. I believe the ONLY thing we have going for us now is prayer. We sure can't fight these people alone. I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but our LORD knows what we're up against, and I believe strongly that you are a very strong person also. SOMEHOW, you will get through this, and you have my wholehearted support. I will write a letter, too, and add my two cents worth. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for ALL the help you have given me up to this date. I got started kinda late with the courses, but I am so grateful for all I have learned. (It saved my mother's life a few months ago from a case of food poisoning). A Grateful Student, K. S.
AG... As a 70 year old male in excellent health, due largely to the commonsense, practical information offered by Dr. Marijah McCain, these past 14 years, we are deeply disturbed that your office and the FDA are trying to shut her down.
In the state of Arkansas, you have very real criminal problems that deserve real attention. To focus on someone who has provided a valuable service to thousands of people is, in our judgment, a miscarriage of justice.
We feel deeply indebted for the invaluable health information provided by Dr. McCain over the years. In our judgment your efforts to limit the information she is allowed to share with the membership is nothing short of criminal. As members of the Herbal Healer Academy, we believe it is our right to determine the value of information provided to the membership. We do not need or want government agencies deciding that for us. We know how to separate wheat from chaff and thank God, that Dr. McCain has provided reliable information and resources over the years we have been members. Sincerely, P.& L. R.
Dear Dr McCain, I live in South Africa so am unable to offer anything other than my prayers (I know how powerful prayer can be). I know why they are going after you - it has a lot to do with your whistle blowing! They are a formidable opponent - hence my prayers for your safety and the continuance of your business. Thanks for all the valuable advice you send out. I do hope you will be able to continue. All the very best. Lynn
Good morning again Dr McCain, I have been out on the porch here at the health center, catching a few moments of the peace and serenity of our mountain retreat., and thinking of you. A mother deer has come to the edge of the meadow just across the driveway and she is feeding on the late Mayberries while her very young twins are nursing. I really wish that you could be here for a rest. I wish that you can find a little peace and serenity during this unreasonable time . But know that we are all asking God to Bless Your Socks Off in the coming times. That's all - Just wanting to send Love and Hope, and Caring to you. Dr R
I have just written more letters here in NY. I wrote to Our Governor, Senators, Assemblymen, The NYS Reflexology Association, The International Massage Association. The Squeeky Wheel Gets The Oil....... Love and Prayers, T.
Dear AG Pryor,
I was very upset to learn of your civil suit filed against healers, and specifically against Mariah McCain, ND of the Herbal Healer Academy. As a current student of Dr. McCain's, I have a personal interest in the outcome of the case and have a right to have my voice heard. Your suit will not only affect those living in Arkansas, but will affect human beings around the world.
I chose Dr. McCain's correspondence courses over all others offered because the advertising of those courses was upfront and honest. No where in any of the information provided was there any indication that at the completion of these courses I would be 'accredited' as a Naturopath. If you had read Dr. McCain's course descriptions and the headliner information at the very beginning of the course page, you would have clearly seen the following:
Attention all Naturopathic Students - upon completion of all your required course work, there will be a final Herbal Healer Academy naturopath written exam. This exam is done at home and requires extensive case studies. When this is successfully passed -- must get 90% or better, you will receive the Herbal Healer Naturopathic Certificate. With this in hand, you may apply to the ANMCAB for board certification. This requires registration fees for ANMA, a Board Certification registration fee and application and another on-site examination as outlined by the ANMCAB, to be given at the location of their choice. We understand that it will be offered a couple of times a year. You will need to contact them for details when you are ready. Cost for the Herbal healer final examination is $50.00.
I am not 100% certain that this is what was written on her site prior to your lawsuit, but I can tell you that I was 100% certain when I read it a month ago that this is what was what I understood. (This hardly sounds like a two-week crash course, now does it?)
You've also written in your press release that "according to information obtained by the AG's Office, the practice of naturopathic medicine requires at least a four-year, graduate-level education of rigorous and intensive study from nationally-recognized and/or regionally-accredited naturopathic medical institutions. Only students who graduate from such medical institutions are eligible to take the national licensing exam for practicing naturopathic physicians (NPLEX)". This information applies only to Naturopathic Physicians seeking to obtain licensure, and not to Naturopaths seeking board certification. We will agree that NPLEX and ANMCAB are two entirely different entities serving different groups of people.
There are differences between Naturopathic Physicians and Naturopaths -- Naturopathic Physicians must first have a state license as an "allopathic doctor, Osteopath, Doctor of Dental Surgery, or Doctor of Medical Dentistry, Doctor of Pharmacology, Chiropractor, Nurse Practitioner, Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with an additional training in Naturopathic therapies" as written in ANMCAB's eligibility requirements.
A Naturopath (ABCN) must graduate "from a Naturopathic program that is approved by the ANMCAB, and/or education and experience deemed equivalent, and sit for and pass the required naturopathic examination administered by the American Board of Naturopathic Examiners".
HHA is one of nine teaching facilities that is qualified to have their completion of course certified students sit for the ANMCAB exams.
You do Dr. McCain a great disservice lumping the Herbal Healer Academy in with these other naturopathic learning facilities. The press release information on your website reads "defendants advertise that upon completion of consumers taking the 'accredited two-week accelerated course of study', they will be able to practice naturopathic medicine". This is untrue in the case of Herbal Healer Academy, as you know. As a matter of fact, I saw no specific allegations against HHA‘s practices on your press release, only the high-handed, title of the release, “Mark Pryor files suit against individuals posing as Naturopathic Physicians”.
In closing, I would like to state that never, in any of the information gleaned from HHA’s site, was I directed to believe that I would be a Naturopathic Physician. I do not feel defrauded or deceived by HHA. I do not feel that anything on the HHA site
is ’alarming’ with regard to their credentialing process or the courses they offer. I also believe that HHA has followed, and will continue to follow, the ’safeguards put in place to protect the public’.
Dr. Mariah McCain is running a reputable, conscientious and compassionate business, and it is of infinite value to Arkansas, the United States, and the world. Sincerely, J. C.
Attention Mark Pryor,
I am very disturbed that you are trying to stop the Herbal Healer Academy, and Marijah McCain. I have been buying and using some of her herbals and they help me. I do not know what her customers will do if you do shut her down. Please reconsider your action against her and her business. We are adults who are buying the products and are making the decisions as to whether they address our health needs. It is no worse than walking into the GNC Healthfood Stores at the malls and going down the aisles and seeing all the herbal over the counter remedies that are there, or in fact , going down the aisles in the local pharmacy. They have suggestions as to how these products could help alleviate some of the problems on their labels also. There is always the disclaimer though on the labels. I see no difference in those and those that I buy from Marijah McCain. It is also interesting to note on your website that the first article on the site is one of your giving a $280,000 grant to the Community Health Centers of Arkansas, Inc. Perhaps that grant bought you a lot of future votes from your constituants...I smell a political mouse ...Hopefully , that is not the case. A customer, and believer in the integrity of Marijah McCain and the excellent products of the Herbal Healer Academy...
Dear Dr. McCain, I am sending you a letter that I have sent to the attorney general Mark Pryor on behave of your Academy and the future of natuopathic medicine. I enjoy your courses and your supplements and don't want to see that be taken away from us. I will be forwarding a letter to Lamar Davis and John Plegge also. God's speed in this matter. L.M. - Arkansas
Dear Mr. Pryor, Mr. Davis, Mr. Brooks, and Judge Plegge,
I am writing in regards to the article on your Web site featuring the suit against individuals posing as Naturopathic Physicians (Case # CV2002 008480). I do not know the other 2 individuals mentioned in the article, but I have been a member of the Herbal Healer Academy, Inc. for many years. I have never been mislead or every felt like that I was a victim of fraud. Ms. McCain has always been straight forward in her knowledge and support. I have taken two of her correspondence courses, one on Herbology and the other on Nutrition and Chemistry, not to become a Naturopathic Doctor, but to educate myself to prevent illness for myself and my family. We have a 6-year old daughter who has never had to take antibiotics and is a well balanced child, emotionally and physically.
I attribute the fact that our entire family does not need or use prescription medicines to the information that Ms. McCain provided on her Web site, and through her intensive educational programs. In your article you stated that SCN (Southern College of Naturopathy) purports that a14-day medical education is sufficient for licensure. I must state that Ms. McCain has never stated such a claim, and if you think that her courses must be similar, you might try taking one first before judging her. Each of the courses that I took entailed over a year of intensive study and used textbooks written by licensed doctors. Ms. McCain has 10 courses plus 2 electives in her course of study. If each takes a year to complete, we are talking over 12 years of education to finish the series. Ms. McCain only issues certificates of completion after a course is completed to her and her associates satisfaction, after that it is up to the individual to approach the ANMA.
As to the herbs, supplements, and information offered by the Herbal Healer Academy, all of the information is offered everyday to the general public on television, magazines, and their local Health Food Store. It is what the individual does with it that should be the issue. The FDA and others seem to think that we as a people cannot make sensible decisions about our health. Well, this might be true for someone who has not studied nutrition or the effects of herbs and supplements. I am so GRATEFUL to Ms. McCain for making the information available to me, we are a healthy family, and plan to stay that way with the Herbal Healer Academy as our guide. Sincerely, B.M.
Oh dear, another battle. I guess we all know what the "real" reason
for all this is. Please know that you have my constant prayers regarding this matter. Because of you, people are living better, healthier lives. Hey, because of you, people are still alive! You are my greatest inspiration to continue my medical education to practice Naturopathic Medicine. I appreciate all your hard work to bring us the vital information we need to survive.
You know, this battle has crossed my path several times before - one I have prayed about over and over. I still hear God whisper the answer, and His answer is every time... "I have created everything you need to survive and be healthy on the earth, but this knowlege is for MY people and not (the world) because they cannot comprehend the love in which this knowledge is freely given, and freely shared."
You are so very loved, Dr McCain. I know prayers are being brought before God constanly on your behalf. There will be a perfect time for the Naturopathic Practitioners to share our gift and knowlege with those who need us. To think of an "underground for natural meds" is rediculous - but I see it going that way
in some states. I just left Washington state where alternative medicine clinics are everywhere and Naturopathic Practitioners are nearly as numerous as conventional medical doctors. Natural Healing is encouraged there, and this is a very poor state I'm talking about. They simply can't afford state funded medical clinics, and naturopathics is a practical, affordable alternative. It works in Washington, it can work anywhere. With Much Love and Adoration. A.G.
Dear Dr. McCain, I am sickened by thelawsuit against you and the others. This is outright harrassment, and infringment of our rights to chosen health care. They are Hell-bent on destroying our Constitution; and we can't let them win. These are truly evil people in my opinion!!
I will keep you in my prayers, and we should all think positive thoughts. God is with His people at all times; so we must appeal to Him for help in this situation. You are SO important to so many; we must stick together against those who would take away our freedoms! Bless you and yours.
Mark Pryor, Dear Sir,
I feel that the office of the Arkansas Attorney General is unfairly targeting the Herbal Healer Academy correspondence courses and products.
I urge you to see the organization in light of what it is doing to advance the health of Arkansas in a cost effective and sensible manner. It goes without saying that health care costs in Arkansas are skyrocketing. Yet, lifestyle choices directly impact on these costs.
As a practicing medical doctor here in Arkansas for seven years, I have seen nothing but increases in heart disease, stroke, hypertension, obesity and the like. These diseases are manifesting in successively younger members of our population. Yet, the vast majority of Arkansas embrace a sedentary lifestyle replete with cigarettes, soft drinks and junk food. How can we continue to pay for these ever increasing costs? If we could only improve the base line health of Arkansans, we would improve the work productivity, increase the tax payer base, and decrease the over all health care costs for our state.
I urge you to look into the findings and protocols developed the National Institute of Health Office of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. You will discover that what is advocated by our own Arkansas resource, the Herbal Healer Academy, is very much in line with this eminent federal insititution.
I encourage you to closely examine the scope of the naturopathic practices and see that they directly address the preventative health care issues that our state sorely needs. At no time, does the Herbal Healer Academy maintain that it can substitute it's advice for appropriate emergency, surgical, critical care or the like as they are indicated.
My Pryor, I trust you will rethink your objectives in this issue at hand. We as Arkansans need to embrace the treasure that Dr. McCain and the Herbal Healer Academy have to offer the people of the State of Arkansas. Let's work together so that all may benefit.
Sincerely, M.T. MD. (Diplomate, American Academy of Family Physicians.)
Dear Marijiah. I Am very upset to hear of actions being taken. Not too surprised though. Seems lots of things are always upside down when it comes to right and wrong. I have emailed the Attorney General voicing my opinions. Have completed my herbology course and am looking forward to taking more as I haven't learned nearly enough! Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Seems like
some sort of organized meeting/demonstration might eventually be in order. We are praying! Kindest regards, J.P.
Dear Marijah, Below is a copy of a letter of support I emailed to Brian Brooks. Good luck and God bless. Brian Richards - Western Australia
Dear Mr Brooks,
I hesitated at first to send you this email, knowing that a flood of
corresondence can sometimes harden a resolve in an adverse way. Not knowing the full background to Marijah McCain's case limits my reasoning, but I must say this;
In any democratic society naturopathy offers a choice to aid healing, painrelief or prevention. This has been the case for centuries. Drug companies today are going full steam in offering natural remedies for this and that. You only have to read the labels on pharmacy shelves to see this is so. Very few naturopaths claim a cure all. Most state that relief may be possible just as drug companies and MD's know that one medicine right for one person may not be right for another. The point I'm making is, we have the choice as adults to choose which sort of remedy we embrace. To take that choice away is to denounce any democratic rights. Ten years ago I was diagosed with severe diverticulosis, IBS and Crohn's Disease. Had I accepted the prognosis and embarked on a life-long course of sulfonamide drugs, my liver would be shot and I probably wouldn't be around today. I sought alternative treatment and I have to say I've never felt better (I'm
61). Thousands die every year from prescription drugs, and of course
thousands recover. But this is about choice. I ask you to give Dr Marijah McCain a 'fair go' as we say 'Down Under'. Naturothapy is recognised world-wide. More and more Australian MD's are prescribing acupuncture, chiropractice and natural remedies as they assess each patient from a much more individualistic standpoint. Please support Dr McCain, not condemn her. Kind regards Brian Richards
Thank you for sharing this information with us. I'm a registered voter in Arkansas and will certainly make my voice heard! I will forward your letter; I've already written an email to the AG's office. I'm going to address this regarding his campaign for the Senate, as well. There is also the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Arkansas Times, and the Free Press. I intend to get the word out as best I can. Again, thank you for sharing this with us and letting us help "fight" in your defense. The FDA and CODEX are already working to make supplements impotent, but I see everyone trying to stamp out alternative therapies and I know I have to do my part to keep this from happening. S.B. Arkansas
Dear Dr. McCain, Marijah,
In reading your posting about those legal actions against you, the first question is "Cui Bono?" [not the singer but the question] Who Benefits? Isn't it probable that the pharmaceutical industry has an interest in reducing the effective work of people like yourself? Have you committed the deadly sin of describing the effects of Aspartame?
Keep up the good fight, we are measured in the final analysis by how hard we battled for the general good, not by the total of our visible successes. They are trying to scare you with a barrage of bogus charges by the look of it, hang in there please for the good of all your clients and friends. Best wishes from David Burnett in England.
You certainly have my prayers. Take care and have courage and persistence to fight the evil ones who would drug all for profit. A.
Hello DR. McCain,
I am appalled at the lawsuit, yet not surprised. We all know who is really behind this... the pharmaceutical companies, that's who! They are beginning to lose money to those that dare tell the truth!
If it wasn't for the products we use from Herbal Healer, or the education we receive from there, I would probably still be lying in a bed pumped full of drugs that just don't work! Well, they do work... they work at making you in "Bondage" to them forever, always hoping, and never getting to the root cause of the problem... only getting more side effects and getting sicker. I vowed that I would not lose my life like my grandmother, and so many before me that had all their bottles of medication right by their bedsides as their lives just slowly ebbed away, never being truly helped. No, that's not for me. I'm am not the only one that feels this way.
The drug companies are mad, Dr. McCain. They are losing money. The drug companies have the FDA right in their pockets. Not only does the government want to take all our rights away, the FDA wants to take our right to choose our own health care away and pump us all with their drugs. It's all about money, not our health.
Dr. McCain, we will pray for you. The prayer of a Righteous man (and woman), avails much. Don't lose hope. There will be many out here praying for you, your family and Herbal Healer. Now is not the time to run scared, but to have faith and hope. Let's not have them have their way and take our right to choose our own health care away. You are a blessing to many. What's the old adage.... "If God be for me, who can be against!" God bless, G. S. - Aim for Health
Dear Sirs, and Judge John Plegge
It has come to my attention that the Arkansas Attorney Generals office is filing a civil suit against Dr. Marijah McCain. I would like to take this opportunity to voice my support for Dr. McCain. As a customer I do not believe I have ever been mislead regarding any of the homeopathic products or services. I expect HHA and Dr. McCain will be totally exonerated. I look forward to continue to do business with someone of such upstanding character, who truly cares about people and their health.
I wish all citizens of Arkansas were as competent and caring as Dr. McCain. When will the FDA and State Attorney generals offices realize that the consumer demand exists and continues to grow for these products. These frivolous suits have going on for more than 10 years now, such as the suits and FDA investigations of Herbalife in California and that company continues to do a great volume of business to this day. I expect HHA to continue to provide excellent products and services for many years to come. Best Regards, Mr. K.A.P
I am very angry at what is happening to you and why. More and more
people are being educated in the use of natural healing and are not using prescription drugs. THAT is why this is happening. You have not said anything in describing the products that anyone in the health food or natural healing business has also said to describe their many uses. I just want you to know I will be praying for you and I hope you keep us posted on how this is going. Angie
I can't believe they're doing this. You can take correspondence courses for everything else. You can become a private investigator, an accountant, become an electrician, even get your degree in something. You can take on-line courses for just about anything you want to take. A person can take correspondence courses for Bible studies and become a preacher. Therapist's can take their CEU's by correspondence or on-line. Why are they singling out HHA?
What can I do to help? If you have to go to court, WE ALL SHOULD BE THERE !!!!! I live not too far from you, near Huntsville, AR. We need to protest this. We need OUR voices to be heard. It's not just you, it's all of us. Please tell me what I can do. I am at your service. In the meantime, I will be in prayer. I will also send a letter off the attorney general to protest this action. My prayers are with you, contact me and let me know what I can do. I'll do it and the Lord will be my SHIELD.Love and prayers, Teri LMT, NCTMB
The web site in question does give full disclosure about the uses of Herbal Products and also includes the wording (Please consult your Doctor for question before taking any product that is Herbal for your medical condition). You must understand that in the United States we have what is called freedom of choice and the on-line buyers have those rights to choose which product to buy and to use be it Education Matter or Herbal Products, and no Government in the United States can stop those rights which if you elect to press forward with your charges of a Public Nuisance and Deceptive Business Practices on Dr.McCain I hope that she will contact the Pacific Legal Foundation for help in this matter. If you would like to visit the PLF web site it is at www.pacificlegal.org The PLF knows a lot more about Herbal Products than the State of Arkansas and I hope that Dr.McCain calls them for support I know I would. Over the last three years even the AMA knows that Herbal Products do help people and to say that one does not have the knowhow is very insulting. You are trying to do what the US House tried to do on Vitamins and they failed. I hope that you will try to understand the goal of herbal products in the market place as many other States have done and give support of them by understanding the uses by (LAW) because it's not just a Arkansas problem it's all of the States in the United States that are making change to the new resources called Herbal Products. I hope that you can help Dr.McCain to better understand just what you need her to do with regards to her business practices and allow her to continue to help people. As a AG you should do all you can do to defuse the issue and help all parties involved and I hope that you are that type of person. Sincerely, SH
Dr Mc Cain,
They wouldn't be doing this if the "establishment" didn't feel they were losing their "grip" on a lot of us. I learn so much on your site. You go, Girl!! P.L. Trenton, IL
Arkansas Attorney General,
I was appalled to hear what is happening to Dr. McCain!! My husband and I put our daughter through one of the colleges there in Arkansas, Henderson State, where my husband also graduated... and we buy regularly from Dr. McCain!! My 3 year old son has never been able to take the allopathic medicines...especially the antibiotics and until we learned about Dr. McCain's products...he was sick all the time! Now he stays healthy most of the time and we have Dr. McCain to thank for that!
My husband almost lost his thumb when he got it infected and Dr's kept switching antibiotics on him, trying to find one that would work on it...they went through 3 before he finally decided to give Dr. McCain's colloidal silver a try....the pain was completely gone within 24 hours and the green color also left. He has been sold on it ever since.
The people of the United States should have the right to choose where they want to buy and what they want to buy to use for medicines.... not the government!!! I think it is terrible that you are spending tax payers money on trying to put her out of business, and have you asked yourself why???? Why are you trying to block people's testimonials?! I could give you more myself, just from my own family! Have you tried them??? My son had a terrible cold just a little over a week ago and the dr's here wouldnt prescribe him anything! I started him on some of Dr. McCain's childrens herbs for colds and his was gone within 3-4 days. He used to go into croup every time he got a cold...until we found her and her meds! Dont you have better things to do than to pick on someone so good and caring as Dr. McCain??? Why are you doing this???!!!!! Nobody is being hurt by her....just helped!!! Allopathic Dr's are the ones who use medicines with all the side affects...go after them and leave her alone!!! S.G.
Dr. McCain, Stay calm and keep up your faith in God! I will be saying special prayers for you and a special Novena every day for you...also going to the parish tomorrow morning to light a candle for you and put you in our prayer book....and I will be asking others to pray also. God will be there for you....just trust Him and know that He is on your side.
Dear Arkansas Attorney General:
It has come to my attention that you are bringing suit against Marijah McCain. She is accused of being a threat to the health, safety, security and welfare of the people of Arkansas. Dr. McCain, N.D. is certainly a threat to the chemical, drug industry and the medical establishment. Her health care products and information are extremely effective. This makes the poison drugs and the medical doctors who dispense them look like the villains and fools that they are. Medical doctors claim you can live a totally degenerate life style and then be poisoned, butchered and burned into health. Dr. McCain, N.D. says that you have to consume the most wholesome foods, purest water, cleanest air, noble ideas, and virtuous activity to attain and maintain health. Do you really think that she is the one who is a threat to the welfare of the people of Arkansas?
Medical experts say that the medical, drug establishment kills about half a million people each year in the US with mistakes. Examining government data indicates about twice this. The only complaint against Naturopaths is that they divert people from going to medical doctors. Our medical system is a failure. There is a great cry now for the government to subsidize drug costs because so many people need so many drugs they cannot afford. If the system worked people would not be so sick!
My wife has passed hundreds of tumors using Dr. McCains, N.D. information and products. Surely you do not think she is worse off eliminating them in this inexpensive way than having her bowels chopped out and having to poop in a bag!
I assume you are decent people. Please think about what you are doing. I know that you are under pressure from the medical establishment and the petrochemical industry to keep the truth about health away from the American people. Think about what they are saying. Is living a Godly life on pure food, herbs, water, air, exercise, etc. really more harmful to health than eating junk, drinking poison beverages, breathing toxic air, and being negative. Who is really harming people and which side should you really be on. How many millions of people really die each year because they listen to medical doctors. Do you really want their suffering and their blood on your hands? Their big bucks have bought legislatures and laws. Will you sell your soul for their bucks? Sincerely, Dr. John Kilpatrick, Ph.D.
You have given me such regained health through your products and I am so sorry this is happening. Kansas just passed some laws greatly limiting naturopaths. We are being bombarded too. Keep up the good fight. We will pray for you and your cause. L.T.
Please do not waste tax payers money on such frivolous matters - we are more interested in keeping this State/Country crime free i.e drugs, murders, kidnapping. Do you not feel anything in your soul when attacking another human being this way when all they are doing is helping people? Surely, deep within your conscious the universe is telling you it is wrong? There are signs all over the place, e.g receiving hundreds of emails protesting....does this not prompt you to want to Help mankind - maybe just stop and think about it for a minute.........the outcome might surprise you - consider yourself (or a family member) being in a situation where the allopathic professionals tell you there is no hope, do you want to be the person to deny yourself the right of seeking alternatives that could possibly be life saving?? Think About It! God put us all on this earth to help one another, to love, to heal - we should all put this into practice. In Love and Light, NM -HHA Member/Student since 2001
Dr. Marijah McCain, You have my prayers and may God bless you, no matter what happens in court. You saved me from a very cripling disease that my Dr. said he had no idea what it could be. I had to wait almost two months to go for tests and see a specialist. After taking your products, I was able to cancel the appointments and feel better now then I have for years.Thank you, thank you, so very much.
Mr. Mark Pryor,
I'm begging you not allow the withdrawl of the classes taught by Dr. McCain. I have been studying for a couple of years now and feel like a new person. When I heard of the accusations it made me cry. You can't take this away from me and my family. We all feel so much better using her products and have not felt fraud in any way shape or form. Not only that she has guided us through the Lord which states that God has given use these herbs for the healing of mankind and to take them away from us would be a crime in itself not to mention the stress you are putting on my family. Where would I get trustworthy information, where would I find good quality herbs? How will I finish my classes and get qualified to heal my own family with confidence?
Please I beg of you not to take her away from the members that appreciate her and her instruction. I don't want to feel bad again. I feel so much happier now since I have found her and have great respect for her. We all have the right to heal ourselves and she has always, always said to check with your doctor or health practioner. We all deserve to live on the planet and to protect ourselves from the deadly contamination we are causing to ourselves with carelessness to our earth. There has always been the statement buyer beware. We are not stupid and we know a good thing when we see it and find it and Dr. Marijah McCain is a hard to find caring teacher and business woman. C. B. H.H.A. member and student INDIANA
I particularly feel very concerned about your current predicament and wish to assure you that we here in Africa are praying for you and wish to assure you that by the grace of the Amighty God, you shall triumph. Above all be assured that we are praying for you and God will answer our prayers. Amen. M.I. Africa
I know that there are laws, and that it is your job to enforce them. I want to say that I have viewed Ms. McCain's web site for several years, and she DOES NOT make claims that her products are miracle products. She does allow individual testimonials to appear on her website, and this is public information that she makes available for whatever value anyone could feel it brings. SHE DOES NOT MAKE CLAIMS TO THE TRUTH OF THESE STATEMENTS NOR DOES SHE ASSURE HER CUSTOMERS OF ANY MIRACULOUS HEALINGS THAT COME FROM HER PRODUCTS. What she DOES do, is provide information to consumers who want to exercise their American rights and try alternative approaches for their health.
I challenge, and admonish, you to keep within the letter of the law in your lawsuit activities in this case, and remember that Americans have a right to information, they have a right to make decisions about their own health REGARDLESS of what the AMA and the FDA think, and you have no right to remove anyone's right to provide information to others. "Dr." McCain has never made claims that she is a physician or ANTHING but a naturopathic practitioner (if some reader of her web site information ever thought differently, it is their own thinking ability that should be called into question, not the honesty of the web site owner). Sometimes I really think the 'big brother' efforts that are made on behalf of the American public by the organizations with authority go WAY beyond helping to protect consumers in their efforts, and venture WAY TOO FAR into actually undermining our rights to freedom of speech and access to information
To Brian Brooks and Lamar Davis
We need the natural herbs and we need the information on how to use them to benefit our bodies. This process has helped the human race live through the ages. I have benefitted from herbs and natural supplements. I have an appreciation for the wealth of knowledge Herbal Healer/ Marijah McCain,ND has shared with me and feel you might benefit from her many years of experience too. Sincerely, N.T.
Dear Attorney General Pryor,
I am writing you today to ask that you reconsider your suit against Marijah McCain and The Herbal Healer Academy. I do not personally know the others, but I do know Dr. McCain, and she has never claimed to teach a course to become a "Naturopathic Physician". This is a whole other degree than "Naturopathic Doctor". Additionally, HHA has never offered me any kind of "two week course" that was mentioned in your release.
I am a nationally Board Certified Doctor of Naturopathy (ANMCAB) and a member of the American Naturopathic Medical Association who is currently practicing in Colorado.
I CHOSE to be a Naturopathic Doctor as opposed to "physician" for very specific reasons. The Naturopathic Physicians, the graduates of the 4 year schools, wish to elevate themselves above the rest of us by claiming to have training that is equal to a medical doctor. These individuals are special only to themselves, and many graduated from programs that are not even accredited by other Naturopathic societies - never mind traditional medical schools. The people that are trained by Dr. McCain have no such aspirations.
Naturopathic Doctors are by training and disposition very helpful educators and counselors. We favor natural, non-invasive preventative care to those who wish to learn a more healthful lifestyle. We do not deal with prescription drugs, emergency medicine, childbirth or surgeries - and speaking for myself (and others I know) - we don't care to. I am proud of what I do, and the people who come into my office are very happy with me. We work only with naturally occurring substances and pose no threat or harm to public health. Most of us don't aspire to be something that we are not, and HHA has never made a claim that we would be "Naturopathic Physicians". Please make sure that you have chosen a correct target.
Respectfully Yours, Shauna Young, N.D.
