It is an herb that is cultivated at 14,000 feet in the Andean Mountains. For generations it has been a very valuable commodity to the Andean Indians. In a chemical analysis conducted in 1981 the biologically active substance p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate was found, and this is reputed for its aphrodisiac properties. Initial analysis of Maca Maca indicates that the effects of fertility are the results of the glucosinolates. Yes, it does enhance fertility, but as you all know you won't get pregnant by taking it, that requires a secondary factor! The other interesting thing that the Peruvians have traditionally used this for is the treatment of Tuberculosis. Now TB is reaching epidemic proportions on this planet and this would be a natural daily supplement to add in. An added bonus is that it is also a memory enhancer! We all need that one! I would think that would be due to the increase in circulation, similar to Ginkgo.

Here's a little interesting history that has been well documented: Soon after the Spanish Conquest in South America, the Spanish found that their animals were reproducing poorly in the highlands. The local Indians recommended they give them Maca Maca. So remarkable were the results that Spanish chroniclers gave in-depth reports. It's fertility enhancing properties were supported clinically as early as 1961, when researchers found increased fertility in rats.

New FDA Label Regulations. This is a good one folks. The new law says that all herbs must carry the same ingredient label as food. You know the labels that say sodium, carbohydrates, etc. This label takes up a great deal of space on the label. To get around this the natural medicine industry in some cases have reduced the dose on the bottles, so that they can keep this label off the bottles. If they place the dose too high then they are required to list the carbohydates, sodium, fat, which in our opinion is an extreme waste of space on the label. It basically does not let us say anything about the product because there is no space left. I have purposely designed the label of Maca Maca to reflect no dosage.
